What exactly is Neuro Hacking

Neuro hacking is a process of using specific techniques to improve your mental abilities. This can include anything from improving your memory to learning a new skill faster, improving your imagination, to increasing your focus and concentration. Stay tuned for future episodes where we will discuss other ways that you can neuro-hack your way to success!

Almost everyone has heard of life hacks, those little hacks you learn to make your everyday task easier, you have probably heard of biohacking, eating certain things to get certain results.

Specifically, we are going to be talking about changing our brainwaves to a state where our imagination is supercharged.

Your Primary Brainwaves

Before we begin, let's talk about some brainwave basics so we can have a better understanding of how and where we can use these different Mind States!

We have 4 primary brainwave states - You have probably heard of Delta, Theta, Alpha, Beta, and even Gamma

DELTA WAVES Ages 0-2 (.5 TO 3 HZ)

For the first two years of your life, you were in what’s called delta, which is very slow brainwave activity. as an adult Delta can be generated in the deepest of meditation and dreamless sleep.

Delta waves suspend external awareness. Healing and regeneration are stimulated in this state, and that is why deep restorative sleep is so essential to the healing process.

THETA WAVES Ages 2-6 (3 TO 8 HZ)

From two to six your brainwaves sped up to theta.

As an adult Theta brainwaves occur most often in sleep but are also dominant in deep meditation.

Theta is our gateway, our neuro Hack to Learning, Memory, Imagination, and Intuition.

Today we will focus on the Theta frequency and how we can purposely get to this state when we need to supercharge our imagination and intuition

In theta, our senses are withdrawn from the external world and focused on signals originating from within.

This is when a child’s life it’s in a super programmable state, so it’s just soaking up everything about the environment at an alarming rate without the ability to question it.

ALPHA WAVES 6-12 (8 TO 12 HZ)

It’s only then from six to twelve that frequency speeds up again to alpha, which is relaxed consciousness. So, hypnosis, meditation, I get into alpha when I get deep tissue massages and you kind of drift off into a trans.

Alpha brainwaves are dominant during quietly flowing thoughts and in some meditative states.

Alpha is ‘the power of now, being here, in the present.

Alpha is the resting state of the brain. Alpha waves aid overall mental coordination, calmness, alertness, mind/body integration, and learning.

BETA WAVES 12+ (12 TO 38 HZ)

And then from 12, we move to normal waking consciousness of beta.

Beta brainwaves dominate our normal waking state of consciousness when attention is directed towards cognitive tasks and the outside world.

Beta is a ‘fast’ activity, present when we are alert, attentive, engaged in problem-solving, judgment, decision making, or focused mental activity.

If you follow my You:OS work, this is where the Slow:OS works

Beta brainwaves are further divided into three bands;

  • Lo-Beta (Beta1, 12-15Hz) can be thought of as a 'fast idle', or musing.
  • Beta (Beta2, 15-22Hz) is high engagement or actively figuring something out.
  • Hi-Beta (Beta3, 22-38Hz) is highly complex thought, integrating new experiences, high anxiety, or excitement.

Continual high-frequency processing is not a very efficient way to run the brain, as it takes a tremendous amount of energy.

I am sure you can see how purposely changing our mental states, to match the immediate goals can be an incredible tool in our neuro hacking arsenal.

Using Sleep and Brainwave Entrainment to Hack Into The Theta Brainwave

I mentioned Theta brainwaves occur most often in sleep and in deep meditation.

From a sleeping standpoint, how can we neuro hack our state in order to get ideas, tap into our intuition and supercharge our imagination?

Theta is that twilight state which we normally only experience fleetingly as we wake or drift off to sleep.

This is when you’re half awake, half asleep in like a dream world.

I am sure you’ve experienced this, sleeping in your bed, you’re dreaming, and then something in the outside world like a doorbell, or telephone goes off, and then that is featured in your dream. Your dream changes to someone ringing that bell.

kind of one foot in each world, unconscious and conscious. Seeing things in the real world but living in a dream world at the same time.

In theta, we are in a dream; vivid imagery, intuition, and information beyond our normal conscious awareness and filtering.

Sleep hack

The best time for you to hack into Theta is first thing in the morning.

Shift your sleep schedule so that you're going to bed earlier and waking up earlier to have time in Theta.

So you get up in the morning, kind of bleary-eyed, you're half awake, either stay in bed or wherever is a good place to meditate.

Start by asking yourself questions.

  • What do I need to know today?
  • What's the next step I need to take?

Start brainstorming ideas, and letting your subconscious answer

You can keep a pen and paper, I use a remarkable device. I don't recommend a computer or phone that emit light.

write things down as they flow or when you are done because you will not remember them for very long.

You will be amazed at the ideas and answers you get, you will even find out that you get ideas and answers throughout the day, so pay attention.

I do this a lot

I hit the snooze 3-4 times (which drives my wife crazy) but I stay in that Theta Mind Frequency

do this for 15-30 minutes in the mornings

Meditation hack

The second hack is through Brainwave entrainment, a form of mediation.

Brainwave training is my method of choice. but you hear of people using mind-altering chemicals to do this as well, to alter their frequency.

Traditional methods (such as meditation and yoga) train your brainwaves into balance. newer methods like brainwave entrainment or synchronization is an easy, low-cost method to temporarily alter your brainwave state.

brainwave synchronization or neural entrainment refers to the observation that brainwaves will naturally synchronize to the rhythm of periodic external stimuli:

such as flickering lights, speech, music, or tactile stimuli.

This ‘frequency synchronization’ response can be seen in action with those prone to epilepsy when that frequency is in the form of light, flashes at their seizure frequency, the brain will ‘synchronize’ to the flashing light, resulting in a seizure.

On the positive side, this same mechanism is commonly used to induce many brainwave states; such as enhanced focus, relaxation, meditation, or today with imagination.

This neuro hacks the entire brain into a certain state.

We are going to use music, specifically binaural beats

This is a method to stimulate the brain into entering a specific state by using sound. These frequency sounds, hack into the brain’s ‘frequency synchronization’ response, encouraging the brainwaves to align to the frequency of given music.

In our case, the Theta Brainwave, using music recorded within a frequency range of 3 TO 8 HZ.

The beautiful thing is you can do this anywhere, I have even done this while traveling on planes. but I find being somewhere that I can meditate works best.

You will need some headphones for the Binaural music to work.

Binaural beat relies on delivering two marginally different tones to each ear in order to create a perceived third tone. Without using headphones, the two distinct tones will blend together before reaching your ears, rendering the technology ineffective.

Don’t overdo it; A fifteen-minute session is sufficient to begin. I sometimes go for an hour or more.

I have attached a link to download 3 Theta Binaural Beats songs

You can also search google and get binaural beats for any frequency, as an example, I will listen to some music in the Gamma Waves for Focus, Concentration, and Memory.
