Welcome to our latest episode of the "Thinking Big Podcast." Today, we're diving into a topic that is fundamental to our personal growth and success: Self-Programming or self-suggestion, self-talk, internal soundtrack - whatever you want to call it.
Our subconscious mind runs automatic self-suggestions, and within seconds of waking, you may have some self-suggestions firing off that could stop your goals in their tracks.
In this episode, we'll explore the different types of self-suggestion, and the subconscious mind's role, and share techniques to improve our internal dialogue for a better life. So, let's get started and start thinking big!
The Power of Self-Suggestion
Our self-suggestion includes the ongoing conversation we have with ourselves throughout the day. It's the voice in our heads that evaluates, judges, and comments on everything we do, think and feel. Our self-suggestion has the power to shape our beliefs, attitudes, and actions, ultimately influencing the quality of our lives.
Positive self-suggestion encourages us to take action, face challenges, and grow as individuals. On the other hand, negative self-suggestion holds us back, perpetuates self-doubt, and reinforces limiting beliefs. Understanding the difference between positive and negative self-suggestions is crucial to improving our internal dialogue.
The Levels of Self-Suggestion
Neuroscience has proven that self-suggestion exists on a spectrum from "total bummer" to "I'm freakin' unstoppable." By understanding this self-suggestion scale, we can not only pinpoint our current state of awesomeness but also make empowering moves to "up" our self-suggestion game.
Programming Your Subconscious Mind
To change our self-suggestion, we must first become aware of our thought patterns and reprogram our subconscious mind with positive, empowering messages. Most of our self-suggestion is formed unconsciously, shaped by our upbringing, experiences, and external influences before the age of 7. Our subconscious mind absorbs these messages, which become ingrained thought patterns that dictate our beliefs and actions.
Techniques for Positive Self-Suggestion
Improving our self-suggestion requires deliberate effort and practice. Here are some techniques that can help you cultivate positive self-suggestion:
- Surrounding yourself with positive influences
The Power of Repetition and Persistence
Changing deeply ingrained thought patterns is not an overnight process. It requires consistent practice and repetition of positive messages until they become internalized and automatic. The key is to be persistent and patient with yourself. Don't get discouraged if you don't notice immediate changes in your self-suggestions or your life circumstances. Remember, it takes time to rewire your brain and replace negative thought patterns with positive ones.
